What’s Your Favorite?

Have you ever had a “food-flashback”?  You know, a time when the scent of a particular food sent you down memory lane?   Many of my “food memories” are centered on the wonderful, enticing tastes and scents of Fall ~ apples, pumpkin, cranberries, nuts and warm spices such as cinnamon and cloves and fresh, homemade breads.

Please leave a comment and tell me your favorite Fall flavor(s) and please feel free to share a “food memory”!

  1. My food memories are of hot golden glistening oil having grown up in Filipino kitchen. Lechon kawali (pan fried roasted pork), lumpia shanghai (deep fried pork and shrimp spring rolls), and crispy pata (fried pork leg) are the memories that are triggered when I smell hot oil. For 6 years I lived in Louisiana and there hot oil meant fried chicken, fried catfish and Southern fried steak, but sisig is what makes my mind sizzle.

Sisig = fried chopped bits of boiled and broiled pig’s head and liver seasoned with calamansi (small lime) and chili peppers and topped with a fried egg and chicharon. It’s often accompanied with cold beer that is served in a tall glass with ice.

    Mmmmmm!

  2. Pumpkin pie brings back memories for sure especially this time of year but for my birthday my mom would make me a angel food cake with chocolate whipped cream frosting which was very special in my house. With 6 kids she was always being pulled away from the kitchen to so something but for our birthday cakes she would shut the doors to the kitchen and create uninterrupted.
